AI and your data

On the Pro + AI plan, Snapveil tags your photos and makes them searchable. Here you can see what happens, which providers are involved and what the AI does not do. On the Free and Pro plans there is no AI, and no picture goes to an AI provider.

What the AI does

On the Pro + AI plan, AI search, tagging and location detection are switched on by default. In the event settings you can switch off each of these functions individually. From then on no new photos are analysed. Only photos are analysed; videos are never analysed with AI.

What the AI does not do

Which provider sees what

For the AI functions we use the OpenRouter service, which forwards the requests to the model providers.

ProviderTaskWhat is transferred
OpenRouter, Inc. (USA)Technical forwarding of requestseverything that goes to the two providers below
OpenAI (USA)Tags and short descriptiona downscaled copy of the photo without capture data such as GPS position or camera model
Google (USA)Building the search indextext only: tags, description, place name, file name and your search queries. No pictures.
HERE Global B.V. (Netherlands)Place name from GPS coordinatesthe coordinates only, never the picture

Guest names, e-mail addresses and the name of your event are not sent along.

OpenRouter, OpenAI and Google are based in the United States. For the analysis, your photos are therefore transferred to the United States. The legal details are in the privacy policy. If you do not want that, switch off the AI features of the event or choose the Pro plan: your photos then go to no AI provider and are stored in the EU only.

What we store and when it is deleted

We only store the results: tags, description, place name and the search index built from them. They are kept on our servers in Germany.

When you delete a photo, its AI results disappear with it. When the gallery's storage period ends or you delete the event, everything is removed together. We never keep AI results longer than the photo itself.

What you should do as an organiser

Tell your guests briefly that uploaded photos are tagged automatically, for example on the invitation or next to the QR code. For corporate events we recommend clearing this with your data protection officer in advance. The DPA applies to business customers automatically.

Grouping faces (planned)

We are working on a function that groups photos by person, so that each guest finds the pictures they appear in more quickly. This function is not available yet.

When it ships, it will be switched off by default and can only be switched on per event, after you have informed your guests and obtained their explicit consent. The results are only used for sorting within that one gallery and are deleted together with it. Before that, we will update this page and the privacy policy.
